future of i7

Theme-based roadmaps, a win-win for everyone.

overview

The Internal Communication team at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago (FRB) was looking for a strategy to imagine what the future of the intranet might look like based on research, feedback and information. I set out to gather infomation that merged all 3 that will drive the product into the next three to four years.

research

I started by creating a survey that balanced asking users on: the usability of the site, assumptions, pain points and potential enhancements that would like to see from the product

Additionally I had conversations with our current developers to try to understand what were some of the challenges that we were facing and look for opportunities to optimize those in the future.

After gathering those two input points from the users, I looked at the analytics of the intranet since the pandemic began to try to spot any patterns or new trends.

After I analyzed these three sets of data points in the research, I brainstormed and created topics and questions for focus groups where I would be able to gather qualitative data and other user inputs about the quantative data I had been collected in the previous rounds.

analysis

With some external research to understand some of the best practices been used in the market and all the data I have gathered from the research, I started to put together a range of incremental improvements that could be done to the site to increase the experience for our new hybrid workforce.

results

The result was a presentation that combined all the previous rounds of research with features and bigger themes that could be addressed in incremental updates that would help us maximize the hours with our developers and would give us a north star while bringing our stakeholders along.
